Historic pubs abound and are iconic in regional and outback towns. Famed for its cuisine, The Prairie Hotel in Parachilna is perhaps the only place where you can feel comfortable dining on Australia’s Coat of Arms. The Feral Mixed Grill (FMG) of camel sausage, emu mignon and kangaroo fillet is legendary. Enjoy it with a glass of Fargher Larger. For another unique Aussie dining experience, try a smoked kangaroo or emu mettwurst pizza in Coober Pedy.

If fine dining is more your thing, the Woolshed at Rawnsley Park is hard to go past. For great modern pub cuisine with generous serves, the Innamincka Hotel is just the ticket. If you want to kick back with a sweet treat, South Australia’s favourite ice cream, Golden North, is located in Laura.

For those wanting to hit the produce trail, orchards and organic fruit and veggies, as well as artisan products like olive oil, cured and smoked kangaroo meats, dried fruits, baked goods, and a whole lot more are available at farm gates or various farmers' markets dotted throughout the Flinders and Outback.

Not surprisingly, the food is a little different on the menus out here. Contemporary food gets a significant infusion of Australiana; kangaroo, camel, goat, and emu combine with bush tucker favourites like quandongs, saltbush, wattleseeds, bush tomatoes, lemon myrtle, pepper berries, and more to create mouth-watering delicacies throughout the region.
